ABSTRACT
In the Welsh language, there is an almost untranslatable notion of ‘bro’, referring to a quite extensive area of land with which people identify through shared endeavours and traditions, and is thus a landscape setting which reflects ‘people’ as much as ‘place’. This ancient term reflects admirably the intuitive and instinctive quest for identity, distinctiveness and character at the landscape scale.
