ABSTRACT

One of the few games that can be played on a field or on a board, as its name suggests nine holes consists of trying to direct a ball into holes. There was also a version using twelve holes. In Suffolk and Norfolk the game was played by making nine holes in the ground in a square shape and players had to knock a ball into the holes from a certain distance. Other than being played on a board rather than a field, the board version is exactly the same and is an obvious relation of marbles.
