ABSTRACT
Regattas, sporting events comprising a series of boat or yacht races, were a popular form of entertainment in Wales during the mid-nineteenth century. A great sense of occasion surrounded the regattas, with the attendance of bands and the decoration of bridges. Many regattas were dependent on gentry patronage, and the elite of society were staunch supporters.
