ABSTRACT

Depending on the type of sports officiating, different physical demands are put on sports officials to successfully fulfil their job. Interactors such as soccer and basketball referees need to consistently keep up with play, positioning themselves near the centre of play in order to have optimal viewing perspectives (see Figure 3.1). This requires a number of physical demands that will be described and summarised in this chapter. This chapter will illustrate which criteria are used to measure and evaluate physical fitness of sports officials and show how and why they differ from each other.
