ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the ethnographic study of a ritual enacted by an informant referred to as the ‘Runer’. The ritual is titled the ‘Blessing of Wōđanaz’. The participant observation took place in North Yorkshire. The definitive elements of this ritual are the casting, perception, and manipulation of Nordic runes, along with an invocation of Ódhinn for the purpose of esoteric self-transformation and self-deification of the informant’s energetic state of being.
