ABSTRACT

Chapter 8, the concluding chapter, summarizes the findings of the research and concludes with recommendations for improving health and healthcare conditions in disaster-prone regions. Comparing two cyclones, this chapter focuses on the vulnerability of the coastal region of Bangladesh to future cyclones. It suggests that although disaster management has received much attention from scholars and authorities like Governments and NGOs, gender-specific health impacts and healthcare access, and their complex relationship with culture, tradition and social attitudes, have not yet been fully recognized. Through its investigation, the research emphasizes gender-sensitive disaster management plans for successful implementation.
