ABSTRACT
Racism in education will not end simply because black students and their white counterparts have studied 'ethnic' cuisine, jewellery and costumes. The struggle against racism begins by understanding the history of racism for, 'it is impossible to bring about a deliberate and purposeful change in the present without knowing how this present state came about' (Szentes, T., 1971, p. 17).
