ABSTRACT

The successful provision of all types of events is grounded in the quality of the planning and delivery processes. These two activities are habitually grouped together but are quite separate to each other and occur, for the most part, in a sequential fashion. Add to these the need for good communication and the legacy the event leaves behind, we then have the four pillars on which all great international events are built. Based on the topics discussed in Chapter 1, we can accept that creating a successful international event requires vision and an understanding of the specific area of business. The investment and preparation required to satisfy the call for an event to be international is by nature much greater. First and foremost, international events require a much longer lead-in period to allow for the more detailed preparation requirements.

There is considerable detail in the four pillars of international event management. The content of each of the pillars is wholly dependent on the numerous different aspects of the international event itself. The four pillars are central to the successful delivery and satisfaction of everyone involved in international events. Each individual pillar provides support for the others while the level of engagement with each is again dependent on the event itself. At one end of the process, the amount of planning and preparation required to deliver international events cannot be over-emphasised, while at the other, the importance of what the event leaves behind and the quality of communication carry just as much importance. The methods of participation may differ considerably, but each plays an important role in the success of the event.
