ABSTRACT

This chapter describes my collaborative work with the Dayak Ikat Weaving Project and the Museum Pusaka Nias through the University of Denver/Indonesia Exchange Program in Museum Training. The Program was conceived to give participants the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences, and as an experiment in appropriate museology. I suggest that this museology counters the hegemony of Eurocentric museology and approaches to heritage management, making it a decolonizing methodology. My case studies reveal the significance of international collaborations and connections, and the need to consider the multiple regimes of value in which culture and heritage can be conceptualized for community development.
