ABSTRACT

Returning to themes and issues addressed in the first two chapters, Chapter 7 considers the on-going reconnection of museum anthropology with academic anthropology within the setting of university museums. It provides examples of ways museums are utilizing collections for object-based teaching and learning, exhibitions as platforms for community collaboration and intercultural dialogue, and working with artists to probe contemporary issues and difficult pasts. University museums not only reflect institutional missions and values, but also help shape them. I suggest that university anthropology museums are uniquely positioned to make anthropology relevant to local communities while fostering global perspectives and cosmopolitan worldviews.
