Databases can save journalist significant time, but collecting the information can consume enormous amounts of time. Before journalist start collecting info, define the purpose of journalist's database. For a database that might grow in size and scope, journalist might want to enter information using a coding system. It allows journalist to break information into subsets without losing the thread of the groupings. The first spreadsheet column should be a number unique for each line of data.
