ABSTRACT
CHAPTER 1: A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FILM INDUSTRY introduces the themes of the industry that reoccur and forecast what is to come. Included for context of the most recent up-to-date events in the industry is a brief history, to illustrate recurring patterns that will teach readers to see into the future. Examples of convergence and disruption will reveal the changes in how we make, sell, and watch films, and what is generating the largest profits. Touching on the most pressing issues affecting the industry today, readers will understand the evolution of film as both an art form and commercial venture, with all of the advantages, opportunities, and challenges inherent in this increasingly complex competitive arena.
