ABSTRACT

Miniature cable line is perfect for special effects and mechanical designs that require sharp bends and confined space situations. Wire rope consists of three basic components. These components vary in complexity and configuration to produce ropes for specific purposes or characteristics. The three basic components of a standard wire rope design are wires that form the strand, multi-wire strands laid in a helix around a core, and the core. Wire for rope is made in several materials and types, including steel, iron, stainless steel, Monel metal, and bronze. The strength of steel wire is appropriate to the particular grade of the wire rope in which the wires are used. Iron wire is actually drawn from low-carbon steel and has a fairly limited use except in older elevator installations. When iron is used for other than elevator applications, it is most often galvanized.
