ABSTRACT

This chapter delineates Wilhelm Reich’s theories and modes of practice that are the bones of the author’s style of therapy and central to her method. Mainstream students have not been sufficiently exposed to Wilhelm Reich although that is changing as he is achieving a current growing importance in graduate programs and postgraduate training programs. Concepts of Reich’s are elucidated: his unified approach, concept of expansion, contraction, pulsation, discovery of bions, importance of full breath, and contact. The author gives a comprehensive overview of the goals of her treatment method, such as natural self-regulation, a direct approach, and treating the patient with deep respect. These concepts are described and simplified to be practically applicable and easily incorporated into reader’s diverse clinical approaches.
