ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the discussion of careers in education by considering careers as an educator working with students in school settings beyond third grade. This will include elementary schools, middle schools, secondary schools, and adult education settings. The chapter covers careers that serve students across a very wide range of ages. It is apparent that the time between middle childhood and adulthood is a period of dramatic physical, social, emotional, and psychological development. This dramatic development happens as humans move from the life of childhood to adulthood, with its responsibilities. The chapter considers careers in teaching, the job that typically comes to mind is teaching in a traditional public school in a K–12 education system. It presents both public and private school settings. The chapter discusses the qualifications and requirements for the various levels of education, as were personal characteristics and ethics.
