ABSTRACT

S Eptember, 1939, was the Jubilee of the official foundation of Morley College. In celebration a programme of more than 150 classes had been advertised, together with an attractive series of public lectures under the title ‘Living London’. The new social science department had been enlarged, and the fresh projects included a Theatre School under the direction of Rupert Doone, who had recently been doing distinguished work as producer for the Group Theatre. An enrolment heavier than ever was confidently expected. Instead the beginning of the month found the College officers helping to evacuate mothers and children from London.
