ABSTRACT

The Christian church is a community of people dedicated to helping one another on a journey toward God’s Promise. It represents God’s activity in a pluralistic world in which religion and science coexist and, in many cases, religion has little to say about the scientific inventions of man. Genetics has moved from science to medicine, and genetic diagnosis has become a regularly prescribed technique in predicting risky pregnancies and other reproductive situations. As a science, genetics is constantly being revised, and this means that there is a constant need for ethical clarification and revision. Fortunately, ethical theories developed across centuries and provide a few constants in the formula, but pastors, ministers, priests, and health group leaders must be prepared to help communicants who come to them for guidance and reflection.
