Any discussion of masochism inevitably arouses fantasies of black leather collars, whips, chains, and other bondage paraphernalia. But for those who work for a masochist, the outlook is not nearly so intriguing. The dictionary defines a masochist as one who derives pleasure from being offended, dominated, or mistreated. The problem with working for a masochist is that although the boss may delight in being the organizational fall guy (or gal), it is very unlikely that others will share the boss's affinity for self-destruction. When the boss willingly becomes the scapegoat, the blame spreads beyond the leader to the whole department.
