ABSTRACT

Chances are, it is not you. Unless, of course, you have allowed one or more of your mad managers to push you over the edge. Unfortunately, sanity, experience, and ability do not always have much to do with promotion to a management position. Other irrelevant factors are often given much more credence. Bosses are sometimes picked because they are second cousins of the CEO; or they were in the same fraternity as one of the vice presidents; or they didn't demand a big salary increase with their promotion; or they were lucky enough to be

in the right place at the right time; or they were so poor at doing their jobs that the higher-ups had to do something with them. None of these reasons are rational. All of them are very real.
