ABSTRACT
Two developments have largely been responsible for initiating the second phase of the social revolution which has brought the equality of women an essential step nearer to becoming a reality: one is the greatly increased average expectation of life, and the other is the change in the size and structure of the family. It is these demographic changes which make a radical re-thinking of women’s role in society imperative.
