ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the key questions addressed in this book and considers their importance for the future development of Christian mysticism. It introduces the overall approaches, methods, and processes that will be used in addressing them. It sets out this author’s understanding of the nature of mysticism, explains the core hermeneutical principles that guide this research, and clarifies relevant approaches to language around LGBTIQ matters. Finally, it situates this research in relation to developments in queer theology and gay spirituality and to current discourses in mysticism.
