ABSTRACT

18Self-awareness is when children begin to find out about themselves and start to become their own ‘person’. They begin to work out that they are a separate being from others around them, in the way they look, and how they think and feel. When children become self-aware, they work out what they like and don’t like, and they start to recognise their own traits, habits, and behaviours. They begin to understand their actions and can judge their own achievements, and can therefore start making decisions about what they want and what they wish for. They also become aware of their feelings and begin to see how what they feel affects what they do.
