ABSTRACT

126 Helen Keller (1903, p. 67), a famous American author and lecturer explained that “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence”. Mary Lou Retton (2000), an Olympic gold medal winner recognises that “Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you”. Or as Freddie, a nine-year-old boy that I taught once told me, “Optimism is noticing a rainbow and being thankful that it’s there”.
