ABSTRACT

In this chapter we draw together the findings from the various case studies and use the comparative information to address some of the questions raised in Chapter 6. Each case study on its own tells a specific story: taken together, the case studies allow a perspective to emerge, in which the particular environment and characteristics of the individual company are reduced in scale, and the differences and similarities across companies are more in evidence. We follow the structure set by Chapter 6, looking in turn at management objectives, trade union responses and consequences for collective relationships, and individual employee reaction.
