ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore the impact that dark side behaviors as a whole have on individuals who are identified as their target, as well as on the organization. First we will explore issues regarding the physical and emotional distress of the target, along with the coping mechanisms used to address these issues. The chapter discusses how individuals have been known to cope either effectively or ineffectively with these types of behaviors. We will look at their psychological and physical distress. In addition, this chapter will explore other impact factors on individuals, including financial, reputation and career impacts. In addition, the chapter will explore the cost of these behaviors to organizations, including financial, cultural and other non-quantifiable costs that organizations may experience.
