ABSTRACT

The purpose of this book is to help readers better understand the nuances between being a leader and being a manager. This text should help guide and apprise the reader of the impact that these roles play on decision-making efforts as organizations evolve, especially during transformative times. Although this text is not a substitute for a basic management text, it was necessary to lay out the discipline of management in order to drive a wedge between the terms ‘leader’ and ‘manager.’ The hope is that readers will gain a deeper appreciation of management as more robust than it is given credit for. There appears to be a general tendency that when managers or leaders are solving organizational problems, they are quick to discard the lessons that the various theories teach and move directly into problem-solving mode based on their instinct and past experiences.
