ABSTRACT
When we think of gates, nothing particularly extraordinary comes to mind. We see the gate as a barrier that separates two spaces and controls passage from one to the other: the gate of a house, which secures the privacy of private space; the park gate that protects public property at vulnerable times, and so on. The gate is an ordinary thing with an everyday purpose. Or is it?
