ABSTRACT

A survey was distributed to LPGA teaching professionals to be completed by their students following a golf lesson. The questionnaire asked for demographic information, information on prior history of playing golf, taking lessons and practicing, ratings of the success of the lesson, and for ratings of the importance of, and the instructor’s effectiveness at, implementing 19 lesson elements. Students returned 250 usable questionnaires by mail to the investigators. Analyses revealed that instructor effectiveness at using lesson elements was a more potent predictor of lesson success than was element importance. Additional analyses explored the predictive power of ratings of specific elements, as well as the factor structure of the element set.
