ABSTRACT

If i have a reason for writing a personal statement it is because of my consumption of popular art. Many art critics do this, by the fire or in bed, but they don’t let it show. Alan Clutton-Brock told me once that he read science fiction (English SF, of course) but, like the Times-man he then was, he did not let it show when writing ‘seriously’. And I suppose other art critics consume the usual detective stories. For me, however, the consumption of popular art (industrialized, mass produced) overlaps with my consumption of fine art (unique, luxurious).
