ABSTRACT

In order to reproduce a diagram of an angle it is necessary to understand the relationship between the lengths of the arms of the angle and the distance between them, i.e. a one-many correspondence rather than the one-one correspondence between marked points on rectangular axes which must be understood in order to locate a point in space—either two- or three-dimensional. In order to investigate the development of this understanding, children were asked to reproduce a diagram showing two supplementary angles ADC and CDB.
