ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 considers the question of what we should expect a developmental theory to look like. It is argued that we should expect a theory of human development to make reference to an ideal end state towards which development aims and that the clarity and consistency of the developmental theory will depend on the clarity and consistency of the conception of this end state.
