ABSTRACT

The final category of 'archetypal symbolism' is of such importance that it qualifies for more extended consideration. There is evidence for believing there is another dimension of symbolism which finds eloquent expression within the urban milieu. Stemming principally from C. G. Jung is the theory that certain symbols represent archetypal human situations, and such symbols have their roots deep in pre-history. Furthermore, their potency remains unimpaired even though they are now largely excluded from conscious consideration.
