ABSTRACT

As in Benjamin Britten's 'Variations on a Theme of PurcelP, the instruments of urbanism have been depicted separately. In reality the real dynamics of urbanism derive from their combined orchestration. Curiosity and problem-solving needs stemming from the neocortex; the appetite for saturation complexity, serial and binary rhythms with archetypal symbolic overtones arising from the limbic brain - these all may find satisfaction within the broad dialectics of urbanism. Now it is appropriate to speculate how the relational principle can operate creatively or destructively.
