ABSTRACT

The Lut took over 160 horses and 20 cars at Chiswick, 30 horses and 6 cars at Richmond, and 61 horses and 7 cars at Shepherd's Bush. Most cars were double-deck open-top vehicles with knifeboard seats on top. Some cars used later on the Richmond line were former conduit cars from Blackpool, where this form of operation lasted from 1885 to 1899. By 1898 there were 59 cars and more than 400 horses to run a vastly better service.
