ABSTRACT

At the beginning of 1902 Heston—Isleworth Council sought powers to acquire land to widen Twickenham Road because of the alleged danger from tramway operation. The rails had been laid close to the kerb in some places and at others there was no footpath. Up to 800 trams — 1,000 in summer — used the route daily. The Council said Colonel Yorke had agreed that there were some danger spots but the Lut would do nothing about them.
