ABSTRACT

Counseling is an emerging, evolving, and dynamic profession currently experiencing rapid growth and generally positive changes, particularly with regard to counselor preparation and professional credentialing. Other changes are more difficult to categorize because they are occurring in literally every aspect of the counseling profession. However, for discussion purposes, these changes may be subdivided into those taking place in professional counselors’ work settings, and those concerning the clientele with whom professional counselors work. Relatedly, changes in where and with whom are often associated with how counselors work. Therefore, some changes in methods and techniques also are discussed.
