ABSTRACT
We begin this chapter with descriptions of some families. Although our prime concern is with household income, some other detail is given to round out the picture. Several of the families are in poverty, on the definition given later in this chapter, but they are not among the most heavily disadvantaged, for a number of whom there are details in Chapter VI, on multiple disadvantage.
