ABSTRACT
THE population of the city of Buenos Aires was 3,000,371 in 1947, and the area of the federal district comprises 307 square kilometres. This is considered disproportionate in a country with 16,000,000 inhabitants and an area of 2,950,000 square kilometres, since it means that the population of the capital city amounts to nearly one-fifth of the nation's total population.
