ABSTRACT

We have examined the neurobiology underlying the mental disorders. The psychological models of mental illness propose that mental states arise from antecedent mental states. Thus, earlier states of thought, feeling, perception, behavior, and cognition lead to future states. The psychodynamic psychologies examine how pathological mental states arise from unconscious wishes, fantasies, and beliefs. The cognitive-behavioral models focus on how conceptual assumptions and patterns of behavior shape psychopathology.
