ABSTRACT

There is a strict set of laws concerning the maritime carriage of goods, and these laws have been updated over the years on a regular basis, in accordance with the changes in shipping trends and the use of container transport. There are three main areas of law worth covering, some of which refer to UK legislation and others which concern international rules concerning the maritime transport of cargo. These are

u The Carriage of Goods at Sea Acts 1971 & 1992 (UK); u The Hamburg Rules (International); u The CMI/UNCITRAL project.
