ABSTRACT

Many schools have developed excellent work with parents but research suggests that there is still quite a way to go if schools are to create the kind of co-operation with parents which will truly support their children’s learning. Children spend much more of their time at home than in school and their parents are their first teachers from whom they continue to learn throughout childhood. There is a wide variation in how effectively parents contribute to children’s learning and the more a school works with them, the more they may understand the value of their contribution to their children’s education.
