ABSTRACT

In the opening chapters of this book we have explored something about the social nature of individuals and the world in which we live and learn. We have seen how rapidly the world is changing and how we are constantly exposed to a society in which we have to keep on learning in order to feel at ease with our society, but so far we have not explored this process. We have, however, recognized that learning is intrinsic to our humanity and so we do not have to account for the fact that we learn; neither do we have to explain the social nature of our learning. However, it is now necessary to explore the nature of learning itself and we will do so in four sections covering, respectively, the nature of learning, theories of learning, an existential/experiential theory of learning that I have developed, and types and styles of learning.
