ABSTRACT
In recent years, there has been a significant growth in the use of alternative methods of resolving civil disputes. The reasoning behind this has revolved around the cost of formal court processes, the legal formality, the loss of good will between parties, the length of time it can take to settle a case through the courts, and the fact that many disputes are of a highly technical nature which may be better determined by specialists in that field rather than by judges.
