ABSTRACT
Who are the judges? How does an enthusiastic young lawyer become a judge? The answer is that judges are appointed from barristers and solicitors. Unlike some other countries, where a person can train for a career in the judiciary, in English law experience is gained first by being a practising lawyer. It is, therefore, worth re-reading Chapter 10 on the legal profession.
