ABSTRACT
Despite the Nazi curriculum, Jewish parents continued to send their children to the state schools, not wanting Hans or Grete educated in a self-imposed Jewish ghetto. The state school would prepare them better for future life in Germany. Liberal and secular parents were also alienated by the religious orthodoxy of the Jewish schools. In 1933, twice as many attended the state schools, though in Berlin there were also excellent non-orthodox schools.
