ABSTRACT

Two wolves nuzzle. A mother wolf carries her pup while another cleans her young. A young wolf plays with a rabbit. Several lone wolves mourn their loneliness. Three wolves arch back their necks as they howl. An alpha holds a lower-ranking pack member's snout between his jaws. The alpha pair run side by side through the snow. The pups of a litter wrestle with each other while adolescent wolves taunt adult pack members. A young female marks her pack's territory. A male wolf watches over his mate as she sleeps. Dr. Wolf cares for and heals the sick animals of the forest. As the descriptions of these images suggest, relationships in works featuring the wolf take two forms: those between wolves of the same or different packs and those between wolves and other species.
