ABSTRACT

KEYWORDS. Outcomes research, collaborative partnerships, education, occupational therapy

Changes in the healthcare environment have significantly impacted upon the delivery of occupational therapy services. Practitioners are now asked to provide evidence that supports the services we deliver (Foto, 1996; Holm, 2000; Rogers & Holm, 1994). However, there is little empirical evidence concerning occupational therapy interventions (Ellenberg, 19%; Kielhofner, Hammel, Finlayson, Helfrich, & Taylor, 2004; Wood, 1998). The need to increase outcomes research to provide support for our practice is well documented. As Abreu, Peloquin and Ottenbacher (1998) state, "the achievement of competence in scientific inquiry and research is critical to the survival of the profession" (p. 751).
