ABSTRACT
Visual recognition can be described as the matching of the retinal image of an object to a description or representation of the object stored in memory. Different views of an object generate different retinal images, yet recognition requires realization of the object's common identity across the distinct viewpoints. The ability to achieve such generalized recognition is termed object constancy and is the subject of this chapter.
