ABSTRACT
The literature on factor analysis (FA)is vast and generally complex. Perusing even small segments of this literature in an effort to understand what FAis, how it is applied, and how the results are interpreted is bound to bewilder and frustrate most readers. This is due to a wide variety of contrasting and contradictory views on almost every aspect of FA,serious misconceptions surrounding it, and lack of uniformity in terminology and notation.
