ABSTRACT

The Comer (1993, 1988) school-based program has been in existence longer than any of the other models described

in this chapter. In 1968 Comer and his colleagues at Yale University's Chi ld Study Clinic began their School Development Program at two schools in New Haven. Fueled by the success of this program in two inner city schools, as measured by greatly improved academic performance and decreased truancy and disciplinary problems, it was subsequently implemented in nearly 300 schools around the country.
